I love the notion of making something with my own two hands--food, décor, gifts, whatever. It's meaningful, it's rewarding...not to mention just plain fun and often cheap! All anyone needs is a stocked pantry, your mom's old sewing basket, and some leftover school supplies. Get inspired and away you go!

Apple Bread

This apple bread instantly became a favorite in my house. So simple to make--one bowl!--and it baked off perfectly.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1-1/2 cups diced peeled apples (I used 1 large Cortland)
Method:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour an 8"x4" loaf pan; set aside. In a large bowl using an electric mixer, combine the oil, eggs and sugars. Add remaining ingredients except for apples and stir until combined. Fold in apples. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan.
