I love the notion of making something with my own two hands--food, décor, gifts, whatever. It's meaningful, it's rewarding...not to mention just plain fun and often cheap! All anyone needs is a stocked pantry, your mom's old sewing basket, and some leftover school supplies. Get inspired and away you go!

Wine Cork Magnets

I love these wine cork magnets. They match the feel of my kitchen and don't look messy and chaotic on my nice & neat stainless steel fridge. They are functional and cost next to nothing to make! Literally...all I had to buy was the package of magnets, which was $1.29 at Jo-Ann's, and I used a 40% coupon to boot!

Supplies List:
  • Wine corks (dry; not right out of the bottle, baby!)
  • 5/8" round magnets
  • Hot glue gun*
*If you do not have one of these, head to the craft store with a $10-bill and reap the benefits over many years to come!

Tutorial:
  1. Select several of your favorite old wine corks. I had a package of 10 magnets, so I selected 10 corks.

  2. Fire up the hot glue gun and spread out your magnets.
  3. Hot glue a magnet to the horizontal center of each cork, making sure the exact opposite side is the side of the cork you want showing when in use; let dry.
  4. Pop 'em on the fridge!
Incidentally, please take a gander at the other school assignment that came home in my first-grader's backpack. Hilarious!
